The FCCW has been partnered with a sister church at Rufumiso UCCZ (United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe) located at Birchenough Bridge since 1998. The Zimbabwe Team is an energetic and enthusiastic group which facilitates this partnership as well as work camps in Zimbabwe. FCCW Mission groups have traveled to Zim six times since 2005 developing cross cultural relationships and unwavering friendships. Service projects have included rebuilding Rufumiso Church, renovating schools, painting classrooms, building a home, establishing a borehole in a rural village, and meeting with our sponsored children . The Z Team facilitates the sponsorship of 30+ children under Friends of Orphan Trust (FOOT). The team also organizes and participates in a yearly humanitarian shipping container. 2016 marked our 11th endeavor!
Our Z Team currently operates under the umbrella of Project Kuchengetedza Zviwanikwa (PKZ) https://www.facebook.com/PROJECTKZ2015/. Our goals include establishing a medical clinic in the Save Valley Conservancy, raising funds for a mobile health van to provide medical care in the distant outlying areas, providing access to water through the drilling of boreholes and the use of water rollers https://www.hipporoller.org/ and facilitating micro finance programs. All PKZ initiatives are designed as a side by side partnership with local village leaders and community members to support development and sustainability.
Our main goal for the immediate future is to address the needs of Angus, a community in the Save Valley Conservency, comprised of 9 villages. Angus lacks adequate access to water – a borehole would serve 75 households, impacting approximately 600 – 650 men, women and children. Many members of Angus walk approximately 7 – 10 kilometers to access water. It is common that women and children spend the night in a queue waiting for their turn to pump water and returning on the following day.
Water is vital to life for cooking, bathing, cleaning and taking care of their gardens and animals, which they depend on for nutrition. Your donation will provide the gift of water to the families of Angus – please help us make this borehole a reality. Go to: https://www.gofundme.com/project-pkz
