DESCRIPTION:Great News! NH writer and humorist\, Rebecca Rule\, is coming back to Wakefield for a free open-to-the public program on October 13 at 1 p.m. in our church sanctuary. Rebecca Rule hosted the New Hampshire Authors Series for ten years on NHPBS and now hosts Our Hometown on NHPBS. She’s been telling stories in New England\, especially NH\, for more than thirty years. She hasn’t visited every town in the Granite State\, but has found her way to many of them — speaking at libraries\, historical societies\, church groups\, and charitable organizations. She likes collecting stories because “they’re free and you don’t have to dust them.”\n\n\nDrawing on research from her book\, Moved and Seconded: Town Meeting in New Hampshire\, the Present\, the Past\, and the Future\, Rebecca Rule regales audiences with stories of the rituals\, traditions\, and history of town meeting\, including the perennial characters\, the literature\, the humor\, and the wisdom of this uniquely New England institution.\n\n\nThis program is being provided to us by New Hampshire Humanities. We hope you will join us for the program which will be followed by refreshments in the church hall.

SUMMARY:Holy Week Observances
DESCRIPTION:Easter Week begins with our Palm Sunday Worship with the distribution of palms.  We commemorate Jesus entering into Jerusalem and being greeted by the people waving palm branches. It is a reminder of the welcoming of Jesus into our hearts and of our willingness to follow him. \nOn Maundy Thursday\, we commemorate the day on which Jesus Christ shared the Last Supper with his 12 apostles prior to his crucifixion. Jesus is believed to have washed the disciples’ feet before the meal in order to demonstrate the importance of serving others. We will celebrate this Last Supper with Communion and hear selections of the passion story that led to the Shadow of the Cross. This service  is at 7 p.m. is  completed in the dark. \nIn commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus\, we are offering our sanctuary on Good Friday for a Prayer Vigil to all who wish to come and sit silently\, pray\, meditate\, reflect. The church will be open from 12 to 3:30. We will offer several short selections if you choose to read.   Spend as much time as you wish.

DESCRIPTION:A Very Different Lenten Study \nOur Lenten Faith Formation study will begin the first Tuesday in Lent (February 23rd).  This study will focus on a different type of devotional entitled “The Art of Lent” by Sister Wendy Beckett.  During this study we will  look at a wide variety of paintings – ancient and modern\, sacred and secular\, familiar and unfamiliar. Sister Wendy presents us with a painting and brief reflection for every day of Lent; \nYou don’t have to have a degree in art history (in fact\, it’s preferable that you don’t!).  We’re all invited to look at paintings in a very different way – one where the act of seeing slows us down\, and invites us to prayer\, to pay attention to the moment\, to pause and reflect and make sense of our own relationship with the world around us. \nPlease consider joining us for this most intriguing Lenten zoom study!  The book can be purchased through Amazon.com at a price of $14.59 in print or KIndle ebook at $6.99.    For those of you who just want to attend on occasion and/or not purchase your own copy\, know that each piece of artwork will be shared on the zoom session. DESCRIPTION:Conversation Group was introduced several years ago by our dear sister\, Jan Fairchild\, and was designed for women who were aged 60 and over.  Through guided conversation\, those who attended had the opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal and meaningful level than they had in the past.  There were two groups of 8 – 12 women.  Later age restrictions were lifted\, more participants joined and the two groups became one.  Then Jan moved away ☹ \nMany moons later\, we are now a strong group again.  We recently met twice at the home of Jan Brejwo.  Our last gathering was a group of 12 women\, and we shared our past Christmas experiences with each other.  An interesting conclusion was the question of\, if you had one Christmas to relive\, which would it be?” \nPlease join us.  Our next gathering will be in the Parish Helpers room in the church on Monday\, January 13th at 1 PM.  If anyone has a recommendation for a conversation topic\, please contact either Margie (balchlaker@gmail.com) or Patty Golden (goldenpj@gmail.com)

DESCRIPTION:To the World – Joy and Peace \nThe Wakefield Memorial Bell Choir and other participants have been working many hours practicing music for our popular Christmas Bell Concert to be presented on Saturday\, December 7. DESCRIPTION:We warmly invite your child(ren)\, ages 5 through 12\, to attend our summer Music Camp at FCCW.  The camp will be held from July 9 through 12\, 2019. Children will gather each morning 9:00 to noon to learn Bible stories through music\, dance\, crafts\, stories\, and games.  Daily snacks will be provided. This program has been a joyful experience for children (and staff) for the past two summers. There is no cost to participate. SUMMARY:Dress A Girl
DESCRIPTION:Dress a Girl Around the World is a Campaign under Hope 4 Women International (a 501 (c) 3 organization) bringing dignity to women around the world since 2006.  Hope 4 Women International is a nondenominational independent Christian organization whose dream is a world where every girl has at least one new dress and knows that they are worthy of respect\, and that they are loved by God. \nWe will be making dresses for the girls in Zimbabwe.  The sew-in will be held on Saturday\, June 1st from 8:30 AM – 2 PM.  Breakfast will be provided at 8AM . We will also be providing soup and chowder lunch. \nPatterns and instructions will be provided that day.\nEach dress will need 1-1/2 yard of quality cotton fabric. No holiday prints or prints with food or Disney prints.\nAvoid whites\, light and solid fabrics as they will not be pretty after 30+ days of continuous wear without washing. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a potluck\, movie and discussion hosted by the Outreach Ministry to be held on Wednesday\, \n\n\nFebruary 27\, in the Fellowship Hall.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe Devil We Know (2018) is a documentary showing the impact of citizens in West Virginia when they take on a powerful corporation for dumping toxic chemicals in the water supply. A discussion of the film will be led by Mindi Messmer\, an environmental scientist and environmental advocate.\n\n\n \n\n\nWhy is this important to us? NH has the highest rates of breast cancer\, bladder cancer and esophageal cancer in the nation. We will learn what is being done and what we can do to advocate for stronger environmental protections. It will be performed by the Wakefield Memorial Hand Bell Choir which is a member of the “Handbell Musicians of America Guild”. DESCRIPTION:Maundy Thursday Service of Tenebrae\, March 29\nSome people say it is the worship service that they find the most affecting of all the worship services offered in the life of the church. All ages 12 and above are invited to this solemn\, contemplative service of Holy Communion\, readings\, music\, and gradually extinguishing candlelight as we walk with Jesus through his last Passover week in Jerusalem\, his time of great suffering\, and his crucifixion. The service will begin at 7:00. Easter is all the more meaningful for those who take the time to experience the Service of Tenebrae.
